Bodice

How to Sew a Girls Summer Dress Easy Sewing Project with Peek-a-Boo Wildflower

I'm not a fan of zips on the back of clothing. I can never make them look neat which is probably down to my lack of skill more than anything else. But the zip puller always seems to sit right on the sensitive skin at the base of the neck and that would really irritate me. Despite having a good sized stash of zips I never seem to have the right length in a suitable colour.

Buttons now that's a whole different matter. I have about a gazillion different buttons, three generations worth of buttons horded and saved for "when they come in useful". Any excuse to use them up gets my vote.

So when I saw that the Wildflower Dress from Peek A Boo patterns has a button closure I snapped it up straightaway.

So the back is fabulously straight forward, reinforced with interfacing.

The bodice is fully lined which is really easy to do.

The only slightly tricky part is the neckband which needs plenty of clipping to lie flat.

Sleeves

I went with the puff sleeves.

They're simple to assemble.

Just a little bit of elastic on the cuff.

Don't they look funny!?!

But they inserted beautifully. I'm not really a fan of puffed sleeves, I'm thinking I may hack the pattern to make short sleeves. I'll see how these look on Little Miss and see what she wants. She's start to develop very clear ideas of what she likes to wear.

Skirt

The skirt is huge but really straightforward.

I've finished all the edges with my overlocker.

And hemmed the skirt before stitching it to the bodice as this seemed the easier order.

There's a lot of gathering in the skirt.

But it went in perfectly.
